I would like being able to specify the SkyDrive folder where the backup is located. It's irritating having a top-level "HotChaiPro.com" folder in an otherwise organized folder structure.

Thank you all for the great feedback on the topic of categories!

I’ve done a lot of thinking and testing in this area and my conclusion is that categories do not fit the goals of Sooner Or Later.

I’ve written a detailed explanation for this conclusion on my blog at http://hotchaipro.wordpress.com/2012/12/28/what-about-categories/

Hi Ondrej! Thanks for the feedback! You’re right, though, that there are no plans to make Sooner Or Later compete with the built-in calendar app, which is already very good for managing appointments like lectures. Sooner Or Later is intended as a complement to a calendar, for to-do items which the calendar is terrible at handling. Sorry to disappoint! -David

  7. Reorder tasks on the Sooner list

I love the speed and simplicity of your app. Have you considered allowing tasks in the Sooner list (and only the Sooner list) to be reordered by drag/drop? This feature would allow me to be more adaptable and flexible throughout the day as my priorities shift or I add new Sooner tasks. Thanks for consideration and I look forward to the next version with some of these promised new features.

Hi! Yes, I have done many experiments with priorities, categories, etc., which you can read about on the blog at hotchaipro.com if you’re interested. The spoiler is that my conclusion is that the Focus button (the button with the star icon) is the optimal solution, and that any more granularity of prioritization is a waste of your time. There are lots of other to-do apps that offer you complex options for organizing and prioritizing your tasks down to the most minute details, but my bet is that if you try them, you’ll find that you’re wasting a lot of time fiddling with your to-do items instead of getting them done, and you’ll soon be back to the simple, efficient, and highly effective Focus button in Sooner Or Later! :) -David

    Thanks for the feedback, Michal!

We are planning to implement the big tile that you mentioned, and we’ll fix the ugly stretched out text on the tile in the upcoming Windows Phone 8 version.

In the interest of keeping things simple by minimizing the number of settings, though, we hope that the text on the tile optimized Windows Phone 8 works for you and doesn’t require a new setting to customize the font size.

    Thanks again!

  9. Just Let me use the flip side live Tile!

I just want the "option" to use the flipside of the live tile to show whatever section(s) I want. The reason is because this is what the customer wants. The customer doesn't need your smoke blown up his smartphone hole, about how to run their life with your smartphone app or how to evaluate their priorities. Your "Goals of the organization" won't matter that much if they can't get what they want. Let them decided to clutter their minds or not.

    Thanks for re-considering the "Option"

Thanks for your feedback! However, creating a new option that requires people to waste time staring at their Start screen waiting for a tile to flip at some random interval conflicts with the goal of making Sooner Or Later the most efficient way to manage your life. Fortunately, there are lots of other to-do apps in the store that may fit your desire for customization options and some of them even include flipping tiles, so you might enjoy one of those more. -David

  10. live tile checklist icon

It would be nice if in the live tile an icon like a check appears in the beginning of each item to make it more visual friendly. It looks very clumped together in the live tile.

    Hi!

    Thank you for your feedback!

In this case, though, I plan to stick with the Windows “Metro” design guidelines and use only text, with the idea that the content gets the focus of your eye rather than the artwork around it.

It may not be for everyone, but I feel like it is aligned with the design goals for the look of Windows Phone.

Thanks for the feedback! This one is hard to update since you asked for two things that will have difference statuses. The Context-Focus system is specifically designed not to interrupt your focus with task reminders. If you have an appointment that needs a reminder, it should probably go into your calendar. However, putting the Soon list on the lock screen is a great suggestion (if that’s what you’re asking), and I’ve been wanting that one myself. If you’d like to track the status of that item, please create a new idea here with just the lock screen request. Great idea, and thanks again for sharing it! -David

  13. some sort of infrequent reminder to scan later tasks

I know (and love) the goal of this app to offload later tasks and to focus on sooner tasks! I would like some sort of simple reminder to check those later tasks and move to sooner as necessary. Perhaps something as simple as every 10 times the app is opened, it opens up in the later task screen. Just so those tasks aren't completely forgotten!

    Hi Michael!

    Thanks for the suggestion!

However, for better or worse, one of the express goals of Sooner Or Later is that it always puts you in control.

That’s why it will never have reminders or pop-ups that try to take control and tell you when to do something.

However, you might like to try the new “tomorrow” button. It’s a quick way to schedule something for tomorrow.

The neat thing about scheduling something for tomorrow is that it will automatically move back to your soon list the next day (after 3am).

This way you won’t have to remember to check your Later list.

After reviewing this suggestion, we’ve decided not to implement this feature, because it isn’t consistent with the goals of the Sooner Or Later organizational system. One key element of the system is that you offload “later” items from your brain so you can focus exclusively on your “soon” items. So, we explicitly do not want to bother you or clutter your brain with “later” items. If you have items in your Later list that you want visible on your start screen, I suggest that these should actually be in your Soon list. If you start to get too many items in your Soon list, you can use the focus button to highlight the items that are relevant to you right now and bring them to the top of your tile. If you still have too many items in your Soon list, you might want to evaluate whether or not you’re…

    Hi Martin!

    Thank you for the feedback!

The “Later” list is sorted by the date that items are added to the list so that items you’ve touched recently are at the top of the list, and older, presumably stale, items are at the bottom.

At this time, there are no plans to add project management features to Sooner Or Later.

This is partly due to the design goal of keeping Sooner Or Later as simple as possible, and partly due to lack of development resources.

I know this is not the ideal answer for you, but I suggest that you try managing projects in another application and only add items that need to be done soon (the specific tasks you need to focus on now) to Sooner Or Later.

If the scope of Sooner Or Later is changed to include project management features in the future, I’ll let you know…

After reviewing this item, we’ve decided not to implement it. One of the design goals of Sooner Or Later is that it be very efficient to use throughout the day. Since scanning your “Soon” list is one of the things you do most often with Sooner Or Later, it is particularly important that reading the list is efficient. If we encouraged very long task titles, then you would spend that much extra time reading each time you scanned your list. Also, it is critical that your Live Tile is effective, so you don’t even have to open the app most of the time. If the item titles were long, your Live Tile would become ineffective, as most of the text wouldn’t fit on the tile or would be too small to read. So, the limit on the readable item title length is actually intended to encourage you to use very…

    Hi!

    Thanks for your feedback!

I do not plan to add a back tile because there is no way to control whether the front or back of the tile is displayed, and there should never be a situation where you are wasting time waiting for the tile to flip to the front view so you can see the items that you need to focus on now.

    Hope that makes sense!

    Hi Gord!

Excellent question, and I’m glad you asked! In fact, you’ve inspired me to write a blog post on this topic, which I’ll do right after I post this reply.

Sooner Or Later is built around the philosophy that, in order to have peace of mind, you must confront and handle each and every thing there is for you to do in life. If you “leave things hanging”, it causes you stress.

One of the ways that you can handle something that comes up in your life is to decide that, perhaps despite the fact that you would like to do it, the item will realistically never become a high enough priority in your life to do it.

That item goes into your “Never” list.

Watch for my upcoming blog article where I’ll also explain why the list is named “Never” instead of “Someday”.

    -David

  20. Delete icon on the blue list submenu

When I click on an item in a list a submenu appears with
    never
    later
    tomorrow
    complete
    ...(space)
    ...(space)
    edit

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a delete icon there?

There a quite a few times that I just want a reminder that will exist for no more than 5 minutes. Its not really a todo and can be mostly deleted right away.

Of course there is the risk you might accidently delete something important. But that could be solved with a little undo icon. SImilar to the left swipe on a mial message in the Microsoft mail app.

    Hi Dick,

I’m limiting the buttons on the command bar as much as possible in order to make sure they fit on smaller screens, and just as importantly, to keep the app simple and friendly.

I suggest completing the item rather than deleting it. That’s just a swipe away. And there’s an undo action for it as well. :)
